The geneticist called a few days before Thanksgiving! The cliff notes version is basically all of Mikey's gene studies came back normal. (Praise you Lord!) He is still classified as having Hemihypertrophy but He has no genetic link to the many scary(cancer causing) other syndromes related to Hemihypertrophy. We do have 1 more VERY rare test she wants to look at but she doubts this will be the cause.
The game plan is since Mikey does have Hemihypertrophy he will need to be monitored every 3-4 months for cancer. Hemihypertrophy is an over growth disorder which increase his risks of childhood cancer. The monitoring will just be abdomen ultrasounds and blood work. This is great news b/c with the diagnosis insurance will cover the cancer screening and God forbid he gets a tumor we will be on top of things and his chances of survival are great.
Whew.... this mom thing is stressful! But my baby boy is safe for now.
